Center for Women’s Business Research

The 2004 Executive Roundtable (April 28) featured the release of the Center for Women’s Business Research’s biennial update on the state of women’s entrepreneurship. The 2004 report, underwritten by Wells Fargo, shows that women own a 50% or greater stake in nearly half of all privately-held businesses in the United States and that these businesses spend more than half a trillion dollars on payroll and benefits.

More than 150 leaders from private, public, and non-profit sectors came together to share knowledge about doing business with women business owners. U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Donald L. Evans, was the luncheon speaker. The Leading by Example Awards, recognizing those who are role models for unleashing the economic potential and power of women business owners, were presented to Muriel Siebert, Chairwoman and CEO of Muriel Siebert & Company and to the IBM Corporation.

Expert panelists led three break-out sessions: Best Practices from Corporate America for Doing Business with Women Business Owners; Leveraging the Trends in Women’s Entrepreneurship; and Women Leading High-Growth Businesses – Challenges and Accomplishments.
