Director of Development Development Associate
Director of Development Position Description The Director of Development is the lead person for development with corporate, foundation and high net-worth individuals. Responsible for developing and implementing strategy and specific plans to identify, cultivate, solicit and provide stewardship for corporate, foundation and individual funders. Development strategy should complement and strengthen overall Center for Women’s Business Research strategy and drive organizational growth.
Specific responsibilities include identifying, researching, cultivating, soliciting and “caring for” corporate, foundation and individual funders. Responsible for managing relations with Board of Directors and Leadership Councils, including related events. Must demonstrate creativity in developing a portfolio of opportunities for corporations, foundations and individuals to support Center for Women’s Business Research. The Director of Development is responsible for developing, monitoring and reporting on measurement and tracking reports for all development areas.
Since Center for Women’s Business Research is a relatively small organization, the successful candidate will have an entrepreneurial spirit, be willing to take on multiple responsibilities and be able to work creatively within the constraints of a limited budget. As a member of the senior staff, the Director of Development is responsible for helping to maintain organizational culture and values, takes a lead role in organizational strategic planning and conducts environmental scanning to bench mark the Center’s development programs against best practices among all nonprofits.
Writing, presentation and organizational skills are essential. The successful candidate will have 5 to 7 years of experience and will be able to work independently. The position reports to the Executive Director.

Development Associate Position Description Reporting to the Director of Development, this staff leader will participate in designing overall development strategies and will work with a top-level team to implement programs for all aspects of development, including corporate, foundation, major gifts and direct mail. The Development Associate will have the opportunity to conduct prospect and donor research, develop and write development materials and proposals for both corporate and foundation solicitation, prepare correspondence to solicit and recognize supporters, make contacts to follow up with prospects and track all development activities. This staff leader will have primary responsibility for individual donor relations and solicitation.
The successful candidate will be a mature, organized critical thinker who possesses strong written and oral communication skills. This key position requires an enthusiastic entrepreneurial spirit, the willingness to take on multiple responsibilities and the skills to collaborate with internal leaders, outside consultants and top level volunteer leaders. Experience with databases and desktop publishing a plus.
A Bachelor’s degree with three years of progressive experience in development is required.
